Alright guys, sorry for the delay, been studying like crazy. Several Exams, midterm after midterm. So after pulling several all nighters, I decided to write up a little guide on them. Now you never want to intentionally get into an all nighter situation, but if you have to, here are some tips:-Plan ahead. As much of an oxymoron this sounds like, setting up a plan or a goal for what you want to get done is good, and when you need it done. For example, if you want to study for a bio exam, set aside that you want to have such and such chapter done by such and such time. This will help you get your studying done.- Plan to stay up late. Thats part of pulling an all nighter. Staying up till midnight is not an allnighter, you need to be ready for the long haul.-Plan to have a hard time waking up in the morning. It is not easy at all easy to wake up. What I do is set my alarm on my phone, and then put my phone on the opposite side of my room. So I have to get up and walk to it. And then once Im up, Im up. Just make sure you can hear it. If you cant, set multiple alarms. This is really important.- Food and Drink. These are very important. You need some energy to get you through the night. Note, healthy food isnt going to be your best bet here. You need carbs. Carbs Carbs Carbs. I understand its not healthy, but if its for a one night cram, its worth it. Candy is very good. Chocolate Bars are good for a quick boost, but M&Ms are great for a long drawn out buzz. Cafinated pop is great aswell- Go for a walk. Once you have gotten to a good break, get up an take a walk. Dont watch TV, play video games, go on facebook, etc, because you will just get too distracted. A walk is a good cool down, but isnt too distractingGot any other tips? Post them in the comments, and keep surviving!
At many universities, this week and next week are the big weeks for scheduling classes. Here are some tips to remember while getting your schedule set up:-Do it early. Classes fill up fast, an you want to get your classes chosen before there is no time left. So you want to schedule as early as possible-Make a schedule before actually registering. There is nothing more frustrating than having your schedule all mapped out and then realizing you have 2 classes at the same time. A schedule will help you rearrange everything, to get it to work-Prepare for the semester after next. It is important to know what you want to make two semsters from now, so that you make sure you have all the pre-reqs out of the way now. For example, I have a class I can only take in the fall term, but it has 2 pre-reqs that I have to take. So I made not of that, and worked those 2 pre-reqs into my schedule.-Make sure your classes are remotely close to one another. Us students often make the mistake of scheduling a off campus class, where we have to drive a half hour too, when we only have 5 minutes inbetween classes. Or even classes across campus may sometimes be to far. Have a school map pulled up while registering for classesTry to keep these things in mind while scheduling for class, and Keep Surviving!
Student organizations are a great way to have some fun. You can get connected with people on campus, participate in fun activities, learning about new things, or just getting involved. Most universities have a huge amount of student organizations. Here's some examples of some clubs I've seen:-Movie Watching Clubs-Book Clubs-Academic Clubs-Religious Groups-Cultural Groups-Political Clubs-Team Sports Clubs-Video gaming clubs-Frisbee Golf-Basket WeavingYou get the idea, theres a lot. And what if there is not a group based on your interest? Start your own! Its normally incredibly easy, and only requires one or two people. I am a black belt in karate, and since my school did not have a karate club, I started my own!Student Organizations are a great way to have some fun. So try to find one that fits your interests, and keep surviving!
Eat HealthyThis may seem obvious, but most college students struggle with this. No longer eating at home, college students often fall into the habbit of eating pure junk when getting to college. I know I have, so here are some tips to help break those habbits. -Eat something healthy before you eat your 'unhealthy' part. With every meal, I get a salad and fruit, and I try to eat those first. That way I fill up on the healthy portion, so if I don't finish any portion of my meal, it will be my greasy burger, not my salad. -Limit the amount of junk. Such as, have fries maybe once a week, don't have 3 cookies with every single meal, etc. This is where you are getting a huge portion of your carbs and calories -Don't eat just to eat. If you aren't hungry, don't go to eat! Students will often follow their friends to the cafeteria, and fill up on food when they are not even hungry. This is just filling your body with useless carbs and calories -Keep healthy snacks. An apple or some carrots or appricots are great healthy snacks, that can be easily refrigerated, and taste pretty good. My personal favorite are either granny smith or honeycrisp apples. Yummy ;-)-Try to make out a sort of diet routine. There are a lot of websites (sometimes even offered by your cafeteria) to help you calculate the nutrition on everything you are eating. Nutrition Data is a great site that does just that. It helps you keep track of everything from calories to fiber to fat to protein, to help you stay healthy. As a whole, a 2,000 calorie diet is ideal, so try to maintain thatTry to keep these things in mind to stay healthy, and keep surviving!
